His career began at the age of fifteen, with an apprenticeship in an upscale salon in Paris. His indelible quest for knowledge led him to assist at fashion shows working for Jean Paul Gaultier, Claude Montana, Azzedine Alaia, Comme de Garçon and Issey Miyake.
Upon his arrival to New York City, he quickly established his credentials and brought his artistry to the world of advertising and fashion, working for L’Oreal, John Frida, Revlon, Wella, Clairol, Schwarzkopf and Pantene.
His work has appeared in leading fashion magazines including Vogue Italia, Vogue UK, French Vogue, German Vogue, American and Russian Vogue and W Magazine with models from IMG, Supreme, Elite, Ford, Next and other top agencies. He has worked with cutting-edge designers such as Pierre Balmain and Giuseppe Zanotti.
In 2004, Thomas opened his own small boutique atelier, Thomas Heinz Hew York, in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. He has since expanded to his current, much larger salon featuring a clean minimalist aesthetic, with elegant, modern and functional work stations and reception counter designed by Mihai Badulescu at i and i design.
